Assert Scalar Variables appears to be mostly pointless

The current Assert Scalar Variables will only allow you to define one value per variable. If that is such a hard coded case then why even use variables?

I see that there was a request from 2022 for Matillion to add more complex logic for this component such as the ability to test that a variable is in a list of values, that it is larger/smaller than some values, is not null etc. Matillion responded that they would not proceed with this suggestion as it was not in their roadmap.

Which leads back to my question. What is the point of this component without better logic?

I know I can work around this by building the logic in a python component but if I am to be using code for everything rather than native components then what is the point of using Matillion?

I would strongly advocate that Matillion enhance this component to provide more functionality in its test cases.

Hi @knorman

Thank you for your post, as mentioned on the idea you mentioned, I have reached out to the Matillion Product team to get guidance on this for you and offer some further feedback and clarity, I will be sure to update the idea as soon as I have it.

Kind regards, Joe
