Hello everyone and happy Friday! I have a message from the Web Team. Please see the text below for more information! - Claire
------
If you like to share your thoughts and insights, here’s something you won’t want to miss. The web team is recruiting Matillion community members to participate in their user research program. All you have to do is sign up for their testing pool so they can notify you about tests when they are available.
To thank you for your time, they’ll even send you an Amazon (or similar) eGift card at the completion of every test. Spend 10 minutes completing an online test, and you’ll likely walk away with a $20 Amazon card. Kind of like the old penny for your thoughts, adjusted for inflation.
And get this: joining the testing pool does not mean you’re obligated to actually take any of the tests. It just means they can email you to let you know about them. After that, it’s all up to you. You can agree to take a test if you have time, and pass if you don’t feel like it. And you can opt out of the pool any time.
Big Picture
The goal is to help Matillion’s website become easier to use, and incrementally more and more effective for prospects, customers, and partners. To that end, the UX research team creates user tests to gather qualitative and quantitative data about key user touchpoints from participants representing key user personas.
These tests are actually kind of fun to take – some of them involve dragging and dropping cards into logical groups. Some of them involve clicking your way through a new menu structure to solve little tasks.
In every case, it’s all about choosing what you’d choose on a live website, and letting the web team figure out what that implies about their UX design.
About the Tests
- All the tests are done online using a testing platform, so no travel is required.
- Most tests are unmoderated (no interaction with a web team member needed for the test) and can be done at your convenience..
- You simply click the test link in an email, step through the test as directed, click Submit, and you’re done.
- These tests typically take 10-15 minutes to complete, and yield quantitative results.
- Some tests are moderated – meaning a member of the UX Research team will meet with you via Zoom and walk you through a test scenario.
- For example, they might send you a prototype of a new events page layout, ask you to share your screen, and then ask you to complete some tasks on the page (ie. find out how much it costs to attend the event as a team, or find out what sessions you can attend on Thursday after 3 pm).
- These tests are scheduled via Calendly. They typically take 30-45 minutes to complete, and yield mostly qualitative results.
- Reward levels are based on the average time it takes to complete a test.
- Short, unmoderated tests that most people complete in about 10 minutes are rewarded with $20 gift cards.
- Longer, moderated, tests that will take 30-45 minutes are rewarded with $75 gift cards.
- Test administrators review all the submitted tests from the people on the approved tester panel, to ensure that they were fully completed before submission. Rewards are approved and distributed to all those on the tester panel who successfully completed the test.
- Test Invitations are non-transferable. Each test participant is hand-selected for a test based on the objectives of the test, the personas of the participants, and other factors germane to the test. Therefore, the analyst will ignore the findings from anyone who takes the test without being included on the tester panel for that study.
- If you share a test invitation with your work team, LinkedIn colleagues, family and friends, thinking they can earn gift cards, they will be disappointed (and plenty peeved) when they realize that no matter how many times they retake the test, they will never receive a reward.
