Hey Josh, sorry, but since you’ve been so kind, I’m going to continue to take advantage of you. This is probably a really stupid question, but unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to use Matillion in the workplace (obviously). I have to assume there would be almost no chance of someone working through the Matillion Essentials course and getting to the point of actually being able to become certified? I just saw the link to ‘Certification Preparation’, so it made me wonder if that was for anyone other than professionals already immersed in Matillion. Thanks for any advice.

I figured it out. I have to grant Matillion access to EVERYTHING in my Google account (not just spreadsheets) in order to see that GoogleSheets document. That’s messed up!!! Why would I want to grant access to emails when all I want to do is read a spreadsheet??

Can you outline what you are using and what part of the course you are up to.
Is it the Google Sheets connector you are using?

Sorry, here you go. To be clear, I figured it out. But it just seems weird to me that when I was creating the OAuth Connection and then was prompted to give the permissions to allow Matillion access to my Google resources, I had the ability to choose Google Sheets specifically, but that was not enough! I had to check the box for ‘All’ access to everything in my Google cloud (emails, etc.). That seems extreme!

I completely understand the hesitation that ‘All Access’ prompt can be alarming. This is actually a result of how Google bundles its API permissions. Because Matillion needs to use the Google Drive API to identify and locate your specific file, Google classifies the request under their broader ‘Cloud Resource’ umbrella.
Even though the UI suggests wide-reaching access, Matillion is technically restricted to only the specific data endpoints and files you configure in your components. It’s essentially a broad ‘label’ for a very specific task.

Hey, sorry for another question, but I tried to follow a link, and it went nowhere. See the screenshots below. This is under the Certification heading, and then the course/link called ‘Study Guide - Data Productivity Cloud Foundations Certification. Do you know if these ‘Practical Exercises’ exist or are they no longer available? Basically I’ve completed the Matillion Essentials course, and I’m looking for more things I can build to get hands-on experience. Thanks again for your patience with me and your help.
