Are dimensions possible using the CloudWatch Publish component?

I've played around with the component and it's simple and straightforward, worked first go 👌 very nice.

 

Checking AWS docs, it appears you can add a few attributes to the metrics, example "Unit" and "Dimensions"

 

aws cloudwatch put-metric-data

--metric-name Buffers

--namespace MyNameSpace

--value 231434333

--unit Bytes

--dimensions InstanceId=1-23456789,InstanceType=m1.small

 

Is this possible using the "CloudWatch Publish" component?

Hi @MickfromSydney​ , as far as I know the Cloudwatch Publish component is very limited. Once you start needing more advanced functionality you end up having to do it in Python or Bash scripts. I typically lean towards Python because it's much more portable. I am guessing the reason why unit and dimensions is not part of the component is that when Matillion first created the component limits and dimensions didn't exist as part of the CloudWatch service in AWS.

Your question does prompt me to suggest that you create an idea in the ideas portal for the ability to support the additional CloudWatch functionality. I hope this helps in some way.

Thanks Bryan, apologies for the delay in reply but wanting to speak to some of our CloudOps guys for feedback with CloudWatch. Will see if that develops into a suggestion for the ideas portal - don't want to create noise if I can't articulate a good use case that we can't workaround.
