How do I create a namespace in AWS for use with the CloudWatch Publish component?

I'm a new user and I've been following the Building a Data Warehouse training course in the Matillion Academy.

 

In Level 3 Section 4 I'm asked to "Type or copy a Namespace you have available on your AWS account".

 

My laymans understanding is that this is where CloudWatch will store the metrics generated by Matillion ETL.

I can’t see any options for creating a namespace from within the AWS console, or references to this in the AWS documentation other than in relation to the AWS Cloud Map service, which feels unrelated.

 

I can’t find any clues in the Matillion documentation for the CloudWatch Publish component either.

 

Can anyone give me some pointers on this?

Hi Jamie,

 

I don't think you need to create a new namespace before using it. To create a namespace, you can simply add a data point with a new namespace.

There's a lifecycle to them which AWS maintains automatically. Namespaces and metrics automatically disappear 14 days after the last data point has been published.

Thank you @LL​ ! I was a bit confused by the wording, but it all worked correctly without me having to configure anything in the AWS console.
